SUP'AIR is working with Raul Rodriguez in the development of a cut
away paraglider system in case of an emergency. Nothing new in the
concept but the SUP'AIR R&D department has designed its own version
and is tweaking it with Raul's help. It was successfully demoed at
the Coupe Icare 2009 when Raul exited from a helicopter under an acro
wing designed by his own company RR. Only the future will tell if
the harness will be commercialized.
Not everyone has a keen interest into letting go their paraglider.
Takes " big b... " to pull the pins. Basically, there is a special
handle attached to two cables. One cable goes to the right safety
release pin, the other rides inside the harness and under the seat to
reach the left special steel connector. When pulled, both pins
release the paraglider which pulls out a steerable square parachute.
You can watch Raul in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cAUyok1L7w
Here's a pix of Raul and one of the R&D SUP'AIR team members during
the last Coupe Icare in the French Alps ( pix taken after Raul did
his first demo and elaborating about a few modifications to be made
to the harness to improve the configuration ). I have to say that he
was very pleased with the results so far :
